The lingering effects of outdated document management systems

Information management can be a huge hassle for any organization that handles a large volume of documents, and attempts to update older systems can run into barriers when the total scope of the project is finally realized.

This is the problem currently facing police officers in Rapid City, South Dakota, according to the Rapid City Journal. Police Chief Steve Allender stated that the current situation is causing a serious financial and physical strain on employees attempting to keep up with the ever-increasing amount of records and data.

"We've got not man hours but possibly man months spent in trying to correct these things over the years," Allendar said, referencing computer malfunctions and the system's overall inefficiency.

The police chief recommended upgrading to a new software program that can handle the large amount of both physical and digital documents and organize them efficiently. By utilizing a document conversion service, Allendar hopes to save the city time and money as quickly as possible. He projects that, even though the project is a $1 million endeavor, the city will start seeing budget reductions within three years.
