Massachusetts town ramping preservation efforts

Keeping the information on documents safe from harm is becoming increasingly simpler for companies. It's also very important, particularly if a business or organization faces litigation that requires files to be searched . If the associated records are in paper form, after an ediscovery inquest has been approved, an organization can expect to spend many thousands of dollars to search through them.

Storing files using electronic document management systems is a great alternative. With this in mind, Massachusetts' Hopkinton Community Preservation Committee has decided to digitize their records, according to the MetroWest Daily News. The project will be included in the group's 2014 budget.

Additionally, the source said city leaders are following the guidelines set forth by the Community Preservation Act, which was adopted in 2001. The regulation allows various spaces and records to be preserved to better the area. Funding from this initiative has also been used by the Hopkinton Library and Town Hall to save documents.

The leaders are taking applications for project proposals until late October, and a decision will be made in December.
