Many veterinarians turning to electronic records storage

Companies in many different industries have realized the benefits of storing records electronically. Among the many advantages are increased document management capabilities, accessibility monitoring, security protections and cost savings. As such, industries that may not have considered electronic storage are now thinking about employing the technology.

That is the case for many veterinarians. Because many healthcare providers have seen productivity and capability increases by investing in digital recordkeeping, as well as automatic backup capabilities, animal caregivers have forayed into the same field.

According to The Oregonian, veterinarians who have made the change have found image quality is better than x-rays viewed on films, they can access patient records faster and their practice is more efficient overall. The source said most files can be found in a mere 10 seconds.

"To quote Nike, 'Just do it,'" veterinarian Chris Holenstein told The Oregonian. "If the whole thing burned down tomorrow, there's no way I'd go back to paper records. The return I see is better patient care."

By hosting files on computers, even if Holenstein's practice was destroyed, he would still be able to provide care for animals, as the files would be completely safe no matter the emergency.
