Indiana hospital announces shift to electronic records

Many industry leaders have realized the benefits of electronic document imaging within their organizations. From government agencies to small business offices,  organizations of all sizes can use the technology to better their filing systems, save money and ensure more security protections.

As such, hospitals are beginning to catch on to the trend and place patient files on computers, rather than taking up valuable office space with clunky filing cabinets and thousands of paper documents. To allow different healthcare and insurance providers easier access to patient records, decision makers at Indiana's Logansport Memorial Hospital have decided to make the switch to electronic records.

According to the Pharos-Tribune, the migration to the new system will be complete by the end of the year. Hospital president David Ameen told the newspaper that not only should the new filing system be easier to navigate for medical professionals, but it will then result in better, more focused care for patients as well.

The Pharos-Tribune explained all healthcare professionals within hospitals that are part of the Indiana Health Exchange will be able to access patient data, in case an individual sees multiple doctors.

Increased accessibility has provided the motivation for many companies to make the switch. Recently, many local governments have decided to host public records online, so citizens and students can use important documents in their remote research.
