Hawaii Advanced Imaging Institute goes paperless

In a bid to comply with meaningful use requirements and engage in business process automation, Honolulu-based Hawaii Advanced Imaging Institute (HAII) recently embraced a paperless workflow.

The new platform automates tedious production tasks, allowing radiology professionals to spend more time focusing on delivering high-quality, efficient patient care while also positioning the organization to collect the data necessary to achieve meaningful use attestation.

"It was important for us that the meaningful use tools were an embedded module and not an add-on solution from a different vendor," said Trisha Burgeson, operations manager for HAII.

Leveraging a document conversion service can be helpful for companies in any industry, but those in the healthcare sector have particular motivation. Entities that do not take the required steps toward switching to electronic health records will eventually accrue penalties, so the onus is on them to get themselves in order ahead of the compliance deadlines.

That said, compliance is just one of the many benefits offered by document automation. Going paperless can also help firms make use of physical space that would otherwise have been used for filing cabinets, expand their operations into multiple locations and access important documents via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
