County looks to preserve records archive

Roxan County, Kentucky, recently received more than $10,000 in grants for document management and preservation, according to the Morehead News. The funds, which were awarded by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, will be used to budget document imaging and conversion services, as well as to pay the salaries of staff performing the work.

"These services will ensure that citizens will have access to those records in the future. With the issuance of these grant funds, local agencies will be able to fully utilize new digital technologies in providing in-agency access to the records as well as online access in the future," Governor Steve Beshear told the news source.

Converting records to digital formats allow organizations to make it easier for both employees and the public to access them. Additionally, it can help preserve older records, and protects all paperwork from potential damage from the elements and time.
