Almost half of companies experience data loss

Even if business leaders follow best practices and have the most up-to-date systems to prevent intrusion, sometimes they still experience data loss. Though this can be more common if files are stored in paper form, because if the storefront or building is compromised the documents can be destroyed, it does happen to those who store electronically using conversion services.

According to a recent report form Kroll Ontrack, about 42 percent of companies have experienced breaches because of thieves tapping into Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft Office SharePoint. Nearly 60 percent of those firms said it took them at least a half a day to recover, while 14 percent noted they spent multiple days recovering data and 5 percent said they were not able to continue business at all.

If a breach or other disaster should occur at a business that has properly digitized data using only the best solutions and services, recovery time can be largely eliminated. First, if the breach came from criminals, passwords and encryption may have protected documents. Then, if the office or storefront was destroyed, employees can access the materials from any internet-ready device, ensuring continuity.
